Barbette + Fontaine

(15 min/United States)

Synopsis

A century apart, two drag icons unite through art, resilience, and a shared legacy of self-expression and freedom. Leading the cast is Cynthia Lee Fontaine of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Director

John-Carlos Estrada, a news anchor and filmmaker, transformed an award-winning TV news profile into the documentary "Barbette + Fontaine." Inspired by a dream where the legendary Texas drag icon Barbette urged him to tell their story, Estrada takes pride in unveiling Barbette’s final act. With 15 years of journalism in major cities, he now anchors at CBS Austin while calling Austin home with his husband and French Bulldogs.

“Barbette + Fontaine” is a reflection of who Zak Zeh is, a gay Latino Texan. Born and raised in El Paso, he strives to use his unique perspective and passion for filmmaking to amplify the stories of his communities. He is currently an Executive Producer for CBS Austin.
