Scripted Pain is a short documentary that challenges the misconception that professional wrestling is “fake.” Centered on the personal story of wrestler Amir Jordan, the film explores the physical and emotional toll of a scripted sport performed with real bodies. Through intimate interviews, medical imagery, archival footage, and supporting testimonies from other wrestlers, the documentary reveals the unseen consequences of life inside the ring. As Amir reflects on injury, identity, and resilience, the film reframes wrestling not as illusion, but as performance built on real pain and real sacrifice.

DIRECTOR SYNOPSIS

Barathi Subramaniam (Bhar) is a UK-based emerging filmmaker with a passion for emotionally resonant, visually compelling storytelling. With nearly two decades of experience in corporate marketing and communication, Barathi recently transitioned into filmmaking, bringing strong narrative instincts and project management skills to the craft. His work often explores themes of identity, belonging, and human connection—blending cinematic visuals with silent, expressive performances. Barathi has contributed to documentary projects and short films as an editor, colorist, and director, and is currently building a body of work that reflects his South Asian roots and global sensibilities.
